Longwall Field Service Technician – Mt. Morris, PA

Performs technical and maintenance services at customer locations. Repairs or coordinates repair of worn or defective machinery and equipment. Provides ongoing technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of equipment. A broad knowledge of hydraulics, electrical, and fabrication may be required to perform underground repairs.  Job will require to be on call if needed and be available to assist with equipment repair on off shifts if needed.

Job Summary

Location:Mount Morris, PA


  1. Install, adjust, maintain, and repair components as assigned in a safe manner following all safety rules initiated by Swanson Industries, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the Customer.
  2. Power Gearbox CST experience is optional.
  3. Reads and interprets equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service. Diagnoses technical and system failures using established procedures.
  4. Maintain accurate service and maintenance records. Documents all inspection, maintenance and repair work as required.
  5. Maintain accurate time distribution and records for service calls.
  6. Maintain communications with appropriate mine management and personnel.
  7. Perform basic tasks as assigned with minimal assistance.
  8. Maintain and be responsible for any assigned parts inventory.
  9. Maintain MSHA yearly Part 48 training for both underground and surface work.
  10. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, meetings, workshops, etc.
  11. Perform related duties as assigned.
  12. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  1. Must have a high school diploma.
  2. Must have minimum of four (4) years of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical experience.
  3. Must have minimum of three (3) years of longwall maintenance experience.
  4. MSHA Federal Electric Card is a plus.
  5. Advanced problem-solving skills.
  6. Performs work under minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to work as part of a team.
  8. Ability to travel to and from assigned customers (85%) with limited overnight travel (15%).
  9. Possess a valid Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
  10. Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  11. Proven ability to meet deadlines and follow directions.
  12. Moderate computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and basic drawing reading skills.



  1. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job duties consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  2. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  3. Ability to work safely and adhere to the Swanson Safety System in daily job duties.
